Notice to victims of family violence from Bay Area Turning Point

It is a crime for any person to cause you physical injury or harm, even if that person is a current or former member of your household.

Please Tell the Investigating Peace Officer:

If you, your child, or any other member of your household has been injured or if you feel you are going to be in danger after a law enforcement officer leaves your residence.

  • If the perpetrator is not arrested, you have the right to:
    • File a complaint against the person committing family violence
    • File a protective order in the county you live in
    • File for Crime Victims Compensation
  • If the perpetrator is arrested, you have the right to:
    • Request a magistrate’s order for emergency protection be issued
    • File for Crime Victims’ Compensation
    • Register your phone number with the Texas VINE System

Protective Orders prohibit the perpetrator from coming within a certain distance of where you live, work, and/or go to school.
